Astbury mere carp go on a feeding frenzy
After an unconfirmed report of a 38lb common being caught, we can report that a stunning 34lb 06oz mirror was caught on Tuesday morning at 5.30am by Paul Jones on his birthday, it was witnessed by Dan Hepworth, Paul returned the following day and had a 26lb common along with several smaller fish. Another new member having a great season on Astbury is Sunny Cockayne he has had 34 carp in the last few weeks with three twenties in one session the best being a 25lb mirror, he as also had tench, bream and one catfish, another member had 10 fish in one weekend.

Fisheries manager Andy Freeman fresh after catching a 39lb well known carp from another water did a one night session on Astbury and had 5 fish topped by a cracking 24lb common (Pictured above). Rick Booth also had some good sport with 5 fish the best being 22lb (Lin) and 26lb both mirrors (pictured below).
The regulars are still witnessing some very large fish and it's only a matter of time before the new lake record of 34lb is broken again. Astbury is now proving it as the potential to become the top carp water in this area, and one member stated it's the best £55 he as ever spent! If anyone still wants to join this year, then go to the membership page or contact Mr M Hann on 01782 504394.

The water is still producing some tench and bream to 8lb and one member reporting a good catch of perch on worm. Also could we say that after the club decided not to put very large catfish into Astbury, that pike fishing with treble hooks can now be reinstated all year round.
